๐Ÿงฑ The Missing Scaffold: Why Adaptive Digital Learning Systems Are Needed for Science Education in Low-Resource Contexts
Science education in low-resource contexts faces large class sizes, limited teacher time, and static materials. This article proposes adaptive digital scaffolding frameworks for Nigerian secondary schools, combining HCI, learning analytics, and curriculum-aligned support. Drawing on Vygotsky's Zone of Proximal Development and Wood-Bruner-Ross scaffolding theory, it presents a four-principle framework for building lightweight, teacher-augmenting systems that work offline on basic smartphones.

๐Ÿค– AI Literacy for African Secondary Schools: A Framework for Responsible Digital Citizenship
As artificial intelligence becomes ubiquitous, students across Africa need foundational AI literacy โ€” not just technical skills, but critical understanding of how AI systems work, their limitations, and their ethical implications. This article proposes a culturally responsive AI literacy framework for secondary education in Nigeria, covering: how AI perceives the world, data and algorithmic bias, human-AI collaboration, and building AI tools for local problems. The framework aligns with WAEC/NECO critical thinking competencies and requires no computers โ€” only discussion-based pedagogy.

๐Ÿ“ฑ HCI for Development in Education: Design Principles for Low-Resource Classrooms
Human-Computer Interaction for Development (HCI4D) has produced critical insights for designing technology in underserved contexts, yet much of this work remains siloed from mainstream EdTech. This article synthesizes 15 years of HCI4D research applied to education, extracting six design principles: offline-first architecture, multimodal interfaces (voice + text), participatory co-design with teachers, curriculum anchoring, extreme low-cost hardware compatibility, and longitudinal community engagement. Each principle is illustrated with case studies from sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia, with direct implications for Nigerian secondary schools.

๐Ÿ”ฌ Research Focus

My research bridges instructional scaffolding theory, adaptive learning systems, and Human-Computer Interaction for Development (HCI4D) to improve science education in low-resource environments โ€” starting with secondary schools in Nigeria.

โšก Current Research Areas

  • Adaptive digital scaffolding for WAEC/NECO science syllabi (Chemistry & Physics)
  • Low-bandwidth, offline-first EdTech for rural classrooms
  • Teacher-AI collaboration and misconception detection dashboards
  • AI literacy frameworks for African secondary schools
  • HCI4D design principles for educational technology

๐Ÿท๏ธ Core Competencies

Adaptive Learning Systems Instructional Scaffolding HCI for Development (HCI4D) Science Education Technology Learning Analytics AI Literacy Design-Based Research (DBR)

๐Ÿ“ Methodological Approach

I use Design-Based Research (DBR) โ€” iterative cycles of design, implementation, and refinement in authentic classrooms. Mixed-methods: quantitative (pre/post tests, analytics) and qualitative (teacher interviews, student feedback). All research respects ethical protocols and is conducted in partnership with local schools.

๐Ÿค Seeking PhD Supervision (2027 Entry)

I am actively looking for supervisors in the UK working at the intersection of HCI, adaptive learning systems, and educational technology for low-resource regions.

  • Adaptive Learning + HCI
  • AI and learning analytics for the Global South
  • Science education technology
  • HCI for development (ICT4D / HCI4D)

I welcome conversations about collaboration, feedback, or pilot partnerships.
